Well, I’ll be jibbed.
Apparently Sony learned something from the failure of the Betamax player that put them in good stead in the latest battle of the media formats. At least, it seems at the moment that Bluray is going to squelch the competition.
Not that I care deeply either way, since I neither own any of either media or any device capable of reading or writing said media.
I do have a somewhat mild antipathy toward Sony as a whole, mainly due to their doggedness in trying to erode traditional consumer rights with their aggressive (up until recently) adherence to DRM as an anti-piracy measure. Plus, their particular style of bombast during the initial release of the PlayStation 3 was a bit annoying. Reminds me not a little bit of Microsoft, actually. But whatever…50 gigs to a single-layer disc is a proposition that I’m fully willing to get behind the moment it becomes affordable for me to get behind it.
